What’s good, jungle fam?! Are your ears still ringing from the menacing throwdown courtesy of none other than Dieselboy last Thursday night??? The answer to that should always be “no” because you’re always wearing hearing protection, RIGHT?! And if you’re not (and rolling your eyes at me) I can assure you that that ringing stops being a cool personal remix of every tune that’s played, so get with the program. It was a glorious night indeed at the good ol’ Mouse Trap last week. How do you turn down a night started off w/ Num3r1k making a rare appearance out of the rave cave AND a second set from Gizzmo in just over a month?! You don’t, or you should regret it if you did. I almost did and I’m so glad I didn’t. Make that night just perfect was getting to skank it out w/ my birds to “Bricks Don’t Roll” inside a set I hadn’t expect to hear it in. Big ups to Damien for keeping it true to the dnb sound that night and not settling into a rage infused dubstep!
Steppin’ up for this week’s NAPCast is a veteran of the Cast and one that always makes me giddy with anticipation until the first note plays. Die-Verse is one of Ohio’s FINEST junglists, and I don’t know how many more times I can stress that not only does he have choice track selection but is a notorious turntable manipulator. You hear it all inside here. After spending hours listening to a very weird and moody Dbridge set from Berlin a few years ago, my head was still craving time-stretched and warping bass lines which Die-Verse delivered in spades. He works his way through dark half-time deftly while leading you into a frenzied and full-blooded Jungle. Absolutely lovin’ this vibed out hour. If you were a fan of the “chopped & screwed” days of Hip-hop, this is the mix for you. Truly a sharp reflection of just how much Hip-hop and Jungle go hand-in-hand. Big ups to Die-Verse for bringing us this glorious piece of work!
